Twentieth Week of Internship 9/30/12 through 10/6/12

On my final week of my internship, I worked the Methodist Volleyball game and I did video broadcasting.  I learned that even the simplest things like recording video can have its issues.  Everything does not go according to plan.  I am so grateful to have worked with such awesome people.  I have had some bumps in the process but I learned from my mistakes and they have helped me gain experience.

Nineteenth Week of Internship 9/23/12 through 9/29/12

Last week I did not do anything for my internship, but this week I worked for both the Methodist Volleyball and Football games.  Both games I did broadcasting again.  Each time I broadcast I learn how to better myself in the program.  I rememberr how to plug in certain plugs and I learn how to upload the broadcasting without looking at the directions.  I hope to learn how to do everything like it is second nature to me.

Eighteenth Week of Internship 9/9/12 through 9/15/12

This week of my internship I continue to broadcast Methodist University games through the internet.  I broadcasted both volleyball and soccer games.  At the volleyball game I learned how to set up the equipment all by myself.  I hope by the more times I do broadcasting, the less questions I have to ask on how to set it up.  I also hope I get to do more than just broadcasting.

Seventeenth Week of Internship 9/2/12 through 9/8/12

This week for my internship I worked at the Boys Soccer game at Methodist University.  I did both the broadcasting of the game where viewers could both hear and see the game through the internet.  I also filmed the game and directed the camera around so the viewers could see the entire field and game play.  This week I learned that I need to developed better filming skills because I didn't have the camera flow smoothly whenever I followed the players up and down the field.  I need to control the camera better.  I hope to keep getting better at broadcasting so it becomes second nature to me where I do not need help from other people.

Sixteenth Week of Internship 8/26/12 through 9/1/12

This week was the first week that I continued with my Internship.  Instead of continuing with my softball coach like I had planned, I was moved back to working with Sports Information, except this year they have someone new in this position.  This week I helped identify music from a number of CD's that didn't have song names.  Then I helped with broadcasting the first Methodist University varsity football game.  I learned that you have to be aware of when to switch to commercial and not get distracted by the game in the process.  I had fun because I learned a little about broadcasting and also the terminology for football.  I hope the next time I broadcast I do not start 15 minutes late and I hope we have actual video feed.

Fifteenth Week of Internship 4/16/12 through 4/20/12

This week of my internship I did a lot of mail type work.  By this I mean I put invitations into envelopes for things like the awards banquet and a Methodist Softball Camp for younger kids for the summer.  Even though it is very simple work, this takes up a lot of time.  I realize that on top of other work, this type of simple work wastes a lot of time when other important things could get done.  This is my last week of my internship for now until I complete it next semester.  So far I have learned that the little things make a great deal in a job.

Fourteenth Week of Internship 4/9/12 through 4/13/12

This week I was given a new task to complete for my internship.  For this assignment I have to record the statistics of the pitcher's pitches.  For example I had to count the number of strikes, balls, batters faced, and innings pitched.  I learned that I have to have the precise pitch count or else I would mess up the entire stats.  I look forward to doing this because it is a good learning experience for me.

Thirteenth Week of Internship 4/2/12 through 4/6/12

This week I did not really do as much as I had planned on doing.  I continued to manage the field and do some statistics for the softball team.  Doing the stats helps me understand the scorebook more and how to read plays that happened in a game.  I also learned that if I do not calculate the stats correctly, I could mess up someone's individual stats, which will affect getting them certain awards for the conference.  I hope to do a big project next week and learn something new.

Twelfth Week of Internship 3/26/12 through 3/30/12

This week I continued to do the statistics and batting averages for the JV softball games for all the players.  Also, for the Military Appreciation Game, I went around the entire campus on foot and put up flyers for the game.  I learned that it takes a lot of effort to advertise things around campus.  I hope that next week I will get to do more office work with statistics.

Eleventh Week of Internship 3/19/12 through 3/23/12

This week I finally started my new internship with my softball coach.  Since we had a lot of games, I did a lot of field management like cleaning the dugouts and putting up the flag.  I also started doing the batting statistics for the JV games.  I think I will enjoy this internship more because I get to work on prepping for games.  I learned that things that do not seem important, like cleaning benches, is actually an important part of presentation.  I hope to do more stuff like this.

Tenth Week of Internship 3/12/12 through 3/16/12

This week was definitely a very different week for me.  On Monday when I went into work I was told that I had to be let go.  The reason for this is because I had said some bad things on Twitter (a social network) about doing the scorebook for my internship while I was in Florida.  I was shocked at what was happening to me.  I could not believe that I was being let go.  After absorbing this, I realized that this was a good lesson to be learned for the future.  Be careful what you say on the internet because it can result in some consequences.  I definitely learned that I should not say anything bad about anything towards my job.  I will take this into consideration when I actually get a real job in the future.  On a good note, my softball coach took me in as his intern and I will be doing a lot of field management.  I look forward to learning about how to prep a field.

Ninth Week of Internship 3/3/12 through 3/9/12

This week was a turn of events in terms of my internship.  Instead of doing my usual office work, I went to Florida and recorded softball stats for the MU Softball Team.  My job was to take the scorebook for 5 games and record them on a program play by play called Stat Crew.  This was one of the most time consuming and frusterating things I have ever done.  If I put in a play wrong then I have to start all over again.  I learned how to read and interpret a scorebook and that entering each play correctly can affect a player's stats.  I hope that I will never have to do this again, but it was definitely an experience.

Eighth Week of Internship 2/27/12 through 3/2/12

During my eighth week, I continue to work on the same office work.  However, I started a new section on the Methodist Athletic website.  Since the Girls Basketball Team is finished for the season, I updated the season records for wins and losses and also updated who had career and season records.  Some players from the 1990's were still keeping records on the website.  I learned that I have to be very accurate with the stats or else I could ruin their official record.  Next week I am using a new program called Stats Crew and it will definitely be a challenge.

Seventh Week of Internship 2/20/12 through 2/24/12

This week of my internship I started to record the scores of a golf tournament that the Methodist Girls Golf team participated in.  The program that I used was a program that calculated golf scores.  This was a new thing to me and I was a little confused on how to use it.  Besides the fact that I was confused on how to use the program, I was excited that I got to do something different this week.  I learned how to add teams and organize the teams and players in order of place.  I look forward to working with this program more so I can learn more on how to use it.

Sixth Week of Internship 2/13/12 through 2/17/12

During my sixth week of my internship I actually did something new.  I was given the rosters of baseball teams that Methodist play in a tournament and updated all the players' informations and transfer them to a brochure.  Even though it wasn't anything difficult it was refreshing to do something different.  I learned how to quickly transfer information from word to another document.  I also continued to cut out articles and update records.  I hope to do other things different than what I have been doing.

Fifth Week of Internship 2/6/12 through 2/10/12

In my fifth week of my internship I continue to use the computer and update rosters.  I also continue to cut out newspaper articles for anything involving sports teams or anyone involved with Methodist.  Also, I updated the biographies of the Methodist Baseball Team on the Athletic Website.  I learned how to format the biographies and how to upload more links to the website.  I hope next week I will get to do more.

Fourth Week of Internship 1/30/12 to 2/3/12

During the fourth week of my internship I continue to work on the computer and update records for sports teams.  This week I learned how to attach photos to one of the programs that creates pamphlets.  I look forward to doing more challenging things on the programs I work on.

Third Week of Internship 1/23/12 through 1/27/12

In my third week of my internship I continue to do office work like updating schedules and recording results for sports teams.  One new thing I did this week was uptading a brochure for the Methodist Softball team.  The brochure includes the schedule, players and their bios, and summaries of what is coming up.  I learned how to insert pictures and how to create a brochure.  Also, last Friday I helped out the Methodist Basketball team with their fundraiser for 'Play for Kay.'  This fundraiser sold items such as bracelets, cups, and shirts for breast cancer.  This taught me how to sell merchandise and how to interact with others.  I look forward to doing more activities with sports teams.  I also hope to learn how to use more software on the computer.

Second Week of Internship 1/17/12 through 1/20/12

During my second week of my internship, I started doing some new things.  I still cut up newspaper articles and updated schedules, but this week I used a program called Indesign.  This is a program where I can make things like pamphlets for things like sports events.  For now, I just updated the Methodist University Softball and Lacrosse schedules and team members on the pamphlets.  Also, I transferred information for Track records onto PDF files and linked them to their website found on the Methodist Athletic Webpage.  I learned how to link and edit files on the website.  Some of the things I found to be difficult was how to use the Indesign program.  I think if I work more with it I will be able to figure out how to use all the tools without asking for help.  I am really curious to see what else I am going to do this semester, and I hope to use more of the programs on the computer.

First Week of Internship 1/09/12 through 1/13/12

In my first week of my internship, I have done quite a few things already.  One of the first things that I was assigned to do was to cut out and copy newspaper articles involving the sports of Methodist University.  After I cut out the articles and copied them using a copy machine, I posted the articles on a bulletin board inside the Riddle Center so everyone can read them.  Another job I have to do is working with the Methodist Athletic Website page.  So far, I have posted schedules for some of the sport's teams and picked out pictures to post on the website.  For the majority of my internship I will be completing office work.  However, I did help out with the music during one of the Women's Basketball games.  I have definitely learned a lot about how to input information on a website.  I also hope to learn more about how to run and organize a web page.
