Eleventh Week of Internship 3/19/12 through 3/23/12

This week I finally started my new internship with my softball coach.  Since we had a lot of games, I did a lot of field management like cleaning the dugouts and putting up the flag.  I also started doing the batting statistics for the JV games.  I think I will enjoy this internship more because I get to work on prepping for games.  I learned that things that do not seem important, like cleaning benches, is actually an important part of presentation.  I hope to do more stuff like this.

Tenth Week of Internship 3/12/12 through 3/16/12

This week was definitely a very different week for me.  On Monday when I went into work I was told that I had to be let go.  The reason for this is because I had said some bad things on Twitter (a social network) about doing the scorebook for my internship while I was in Florida.  I was shocked at what was happening to me.  I could not believe that I was being let go.  After absorbing this, I realized that this was a good lesson to be learned for the future.  Be careful what you say on the internet because it can result in some consequences.  I definitely learned that I should not say anything bad about anything towards my job.  I will take this into consideration when I actually get a real job in the future.  On a good note, my softball coach took me in as his intern and I will be doing a lot of field management.  I look forward to learning about how to prep a field.

Ninth Week of Internship 3/3/12 through 3/9/12

This week was a turn of events in terms of my internship.  Instead of doing my usual office work, I went to Florida and recorded softball stats for the MU Softball Team.  My job was to take the scorebook for 5 games and record them on a program play by play called Stat Crew.  This was one of the most time consuming and frusterating things I have ever done.  If I put in a play wrong then I have to start all over again.  I learned how to read and interpret a scorebook and that entering each play correctly can affect a player's stats.  I hope that I will never have to do this again, but it was definitely an experience.

Eighth Week of Internship 2/27/12 through 3/2/12

During my eighth week, I continue to work on the same office work.  However, I started a new section on the Methodist Athletic website.  Since the Girls Basketball Team is finished for the season, I updated the season records for wins and losses and also updated who had career and season records.  Some players from the 1990's were still keeping records on the website.  I learned that I have to be very accurate with the stats or else I could ruin their official record.  Next week I am using a new program called Stats Crew and it will definitely be a challenge.
